Allow me to enumerate a few of our achievements for the time we have been in operation. We have expanded our infrastructure from a single block to mega complex buildings thus creating enough space to accommodate the ever increasing patient population. Over the last 3 years we have handled an estimated 225,000 patients, a 50% increase from a similar report in 2014. The rise in the number of patients has been attributed by;

• Presence of qualified and friendly medical and auxiliary personnel,

• 24 hours patient friendly customer care desk,

• Introduction of new state of art medical equipment and timely servicing of all existing ones,

• Maintaining high levels of hygiene,

• In-house patient meals and a hospital cafeteria,

• Introduction of new patient driven medical services and programs such as Improved lab services, dental and Optical, mother and child care, dialysis and renal services,

• Others include; CT-scan, a modernized pediatric Centre, minor and major theatre operations as well as general inpatient and outpatient services,

• Presence of resident specialist in all key areas such as ENT, Pediatric, gyno, general physician, endoscopy, and pharmacy related areas,

• Expanded branch network with full time members of staff serving as one stop medical shops,

We have integrated IT in all our operations making it easy to maintain electronic patient medical records. This has made it easy for us to update patients on their medical checkup dates as well as manage their recovery process. We are proud of our user friendly website that is easy to navigate as well as lead in organic digital outlook. We also have a 24 hours CCTV surveillance, human security and IT integrated metal detectors system making all our premises, patients and members of staff safe and free from any attack.

In partnership with several health insuarance providers, we have built quality collaborative friendship with key players such as Embu university, KPLC, EWASCO, KMTC, level 5 Embu hospital and county government. On 12th December 2017, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta announced his new plan, the Big Four Agenda.  This will guide the development agenda for the country in the period 2018-2022. It focuses on key basic needs that are critical in uplifting living standard for Kenyans on the path to becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030. Prioritized is affordable and decent housing, affordable healthcare, food and nutritional security, and employment creation through manufacturing. These four areas are expected to bolster strong inclusive economic growth. To this end, Tenri Embu Children Hospital is committed to assist the president and the government at large in achieving the well intended agenda. Thus the hospital intends to:

• Supplement the government efforts in reaching out to the general public in having the entire population registered with NHIF by 2022. The hospital through its monthly medical camps aims at partnering with NHIF in disseminating information to the public on the need of having NHIF cover. In addition, we are keen to encourage patients visiting our facilities and are not NHIF members to register with immediate effect. Its also easy for patients and their relatives to benefit from the approved NHIF medical packages in all of our facilities.

• Making facilities Partnering with NHIF in offering the expanded medical cover programs such as the free maternity services, Linda mama program, the school Initiatives, civil servant programs as well as the universal health care program.

• Bill all NHIF covered services as prescribed by NHIF billing guidelines and seek approvals where need be.

• Register and accept other medical insurance covers in our facilities thus making health an easy undertaking for everyone.

• Ensure timely stocking and restocking of our lab and pharmacies with enough medical supplies and food Supplements besides offering free diatric advice to our patients

• Remain cost effective in all our services.

Under the housing pillar the hospital also intends to achieve the following through its expansion program:

Offering housing incentives to all of our members of staff

Build house blocks to shelter our medical professionals and or their immediate families.

In job creation pillar, the hospital is keen on achieving:

·100% retention of its members of staff by nurturing trust, honesty and professionalism as well as offering the best working environment and work incentives. So far the hospital has engaged over 600 members of staff on its payroll.

Expanding existing services as well as adding on new ones with an aim of serving more patients satisfactorily. This will have a long term effect of employing more operators.

The hospital is putting up a new building to house ICU, HDU, expanded theatre as well as an MRI Centre. This is in addition to a new pediatric Centre, expanded renal and inpatient unit opened a few months ago.

The hospital is also in the process of building a first ever doctors plaza in Embu town to serve as a medical hub for our medical professionals as well as opening up more job opportunities.

In order to disseminate more health related information to the general public as well as create more job opportunities, the hospital is in the process of opening a new health oriented radio station to broadcast from Embu town.

To ensure there are enough medical practitioners in the field, the hospital is finalizing its strategic plan with an aim of incorporating a medical college as part of its agenda. This will create more jobs in medical studies administration and practice besides supplementing government efforts in training medical professionals.

Finally in manufacturing industry, the hospital has already put up a garment making unit within its administration. This has seen more people being employed to design, make and repair staff and patients uniform, hospital linen, curtains as well as other clothing for hospital use.

At Tenri Embu Children Hospital, we are committed to provide affordable health care for all as we supplement the government in its agenda of making Kenya a better place for everyone.

Thank you.
